Construction Timber for Rebuilding Fire Victims’ Homes in Warwan
Location: Warwan Valley, Kishtwar District, Jammu & Kashmir
1. Introduction
On October 2024, a devastating fire broke out in Mulwarwan village in Warwan Valley, Kishtwar, leaving over 70 families homeless and completely destroying approximately 80 homes. The destruction caused by the fire not only displaced the community but also left families without shelter, vulnerable to harsh weather conditions, especially with the winter season fast approaching.
To support the rebuilding efforts, our team coordinated a relief distribution aimed at providing essential materials for reconstruction. The focus of this relief effort was to provide popular timber, which is a crucial material for rebuilding homes. This report outlines the distribution of timber for rebuilding purposes, the challenges faced during the process, and the overall impact of the initiative.
2. Relief Distribution Details
Objective:
The main objective of this relief distribution was to provide popular timber to the fire victims, enabling them to begin rebuilding their homes and restore a sense of stability. The timber distributed was intended solely for construction purposes to help families reconstruct their homes and shelters.
Materials Distributed:
- Popular timber: A significant amount of timber was provided to the affected families for the purpose of rebuilding their homes. This was an essential material to support the construction of walls, roofs, and other structural components of homes, enabling families to start recovering from the fire’s devastation.
Distribution Process:
To ensure that the timber reached the most affected families, a systematic distribution process was followed:
- Initial Assessment: An assessment was conducted to determine the number of families affected and the amount of timber required for reconstruction. Prioritization was given to families with complete destruction of their homes. We have distributed 793.32 ft. timber to the deserving families.
