Voluntary Medicare Society

Australian Kashmiri Association Incorporated (AKAI) has partnered with the Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) in Kashmir, supporting the Education and Rehabilitation of specially-abled children in Kashmir:

Founded in 1970, VMS is dedicated to rehabilitating individuals with disabilities. In 1999, they launched the Shafaqat Special School to support children with mental, orthopedic, speech, and hearing challenges. Today, 72 students benefit from therapy, education, and personalized support from a dedicated team of therapists, teachers, and nurses.

In 2015, VMS further expanded its mission by establishing the Shafaqat Inclusive School, offering education up to the 8th grade for specially-abled students with nearly normal IQs.

Many of these students have achieved academic excellence, with six recently topping the overall merit list—a truly remarkable accomplishment!
